Government Official Says Ministry of Defence Examining Potential Threat from Chinese Cars, as Personnel Instructed to Refrain from Secret Talk in Vehicles.

An defense minister has revealed that the Ministry of Defence is actively looking into the possible threats associated with Chinese vehicles, while personnel have been told to refrain from discussing classified matters in all cars.

Security Guidance for Defence Personnel

During a recent appearance on LBC, Luke Pollard addressed claims that MoD staff have been told not to talk about secret information while riding in China-made cars.

He said that the ministry is “examining” cars from China within its fleets, but emphasised that safety is a concern in all contemporary vehicles.

We have a collection of thousands of cars in the Ministry of Defence and those vehicles represent a very small number.
But regardless of if you’re traveling in a vehicle from China or a non-Chinese car, what we’ve asked our staff is to avoid connecting MoD devices into their vehicle, not to have discussions at a secret level in any vehicle, because of the increasing threats of eavesdropping that exist in all vehicle, to restrict those secret talks in secure locations. That’s a wise and sensible thing for everyone worried about security.

When it was suggested that it would be prudent for the ministry to cease using all cars from China, Pollard responded: ‘That’s exactly what we’re investigating at the present time.”

Broader Security Context

This revelation comes as reports from Norway and Denmark have alerted the UK to the presence of multi-purpose shutdown mechanisms in Chinese buses, which could allow the Chinese government to disable buses and cause chaos to transport systems.

Furthermore, a Russian spy ship has been directing laser beams at Royal Air Force aircrew, described as a “highly dangerous” action by government representatives.

The broader security environment underscores the significance of strong measures and caution in every aspects of government operations, from transport usage to communication practices.
